Power Apps was not built for this job.
Power Apps is Microsoft's low-code platform. It can customise SharePoint list forms, but that is a secondary use case for a tool designed for complex, multi-screen business applications.
For a SharePoint list form, Power Apps means: a separate licence (Power Apps per-user or per-app plan), a Canvas app, a developer or skilled IT resource to build it, and weeks of work for something that should take an afternoon.
Power Apps also does not support SharePoint Content Types out of the box. As of 2026, Content Type support for list forms is still listed as "under review" on Microsoft's own ideas board. Organisations with metadata-heavy SharePoint deployments hit this wall immediately.
Forms 365 Internal was built exactly for this job.
Forms 365 Internal is a SharePoint list form designer. Drag fields onto a canvas, set conditional logic, configure automation rules, publish. No licence beyond your existing Microsoft 365 subscription, no developer, no Canvas app.
It deploys as an SPFx solution inside your tenant. Your form data goes directly into your SharePoint list. Nothing leaves your Microsoft 365 environment.
SharePoint Content Types are supported natively. People pickers, lookup columns, managed metadata, calculated fields — all the SharePoint column types your list uses are available in the designer.
